House Bill Unveiled
Today House Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced the consolidated House bill for health care reform Its ten-year cost is $894 billion, as estimated by the Congressional Budget Office. The CBO also projects that the plan would lower the national debt by $104 billion over 10 years. It covers 96 percent of the population by expanding Medicaid and offering subsidies for the purchase of insurance from private providers or a government-run plan. It is paid for by a surtax on couples making more that $1 million; the Senate bill is paid for by taxes on expensive programs. You can read more here.
