Senator Evan Bayh met with President Obama yesterday at the President's request; he wanted to talk with the senator about the national deficit and health care legislation. "He was asking for my leadership on both of those issues," Bayh said. As a leader of Senate moderates, Bayh will be a key player in the health care debate that will occur within a few weeks as the two Senate bills are merged. Bayh talked with the President about finding a path to reducing deficits which must occur through spending cuts. Bayh said he will propose a deficit-reduction commission to help lawmakers make the hard choices needed. You can read more about Senator Bayh's meeting with the President here.
