Baucus Bill Passes--With One Republican Vote!

Today the Senate Finance Committee passed the bill it has been working for close to a year. The bill garnered the votes of all 13 Democrats on the committee and one Republican, Sen Olympia Snowe. Recognizing the momentous nature of her vote, Sen. Snowe said, "Is this bill all that I would want? Far from it. But when history calls, history calls." Now the bill will be merged with one passed by the Senate Health Committee, chaired by Sen. Chris Dodd, last summer; Majority Leader Harry Reid will craft the merged bill. The Finance Committee bill is the most conservative of the five that have been passed; it is the only one without a public option. It should be noted that this is the closest the Congress has ever come to passing a major health care reform bill. You can read more from the Chicago Tribune about the passing of the Senate Finance bill here.

Below is Pres. Obama's reaction to the passage of the bill.
