Obama Wants to "Move Foward on a Vote"

Speaking to the combined forces of Organizing for America and the Democratic National Committee on Thursday, President Obama committed himself again to continue to fight for health care reform:
“The forces of the status quo may not give an inch, but we will not give an inch. Because we didn’t come this far to put things off, or to play it safe. We didn’t do all this work to take the easy road to get to the next election.”
And the President indicated how he would like to move forward:
“What I’d like to do is have a meeting where I’m sitting with the Republicans, sitting with the Democrats. Sitting with health care experts. And let’s just go through these bills. Their ideas, our ideas, let’s walk through them in a methodical way so the American people can see and compare. What makes the most sense. And then I think we’ve got to go ahead and move forward on a vote.”
He gave no hard deadlines, and indicated that a jobs bill would come ahead of health care. The President said we should "take our time" but it is important "not to let the moment slip away."

He concluded with the story of a campaign worker who couldn't afford health care but had fought to support his reform bill. She died of cancer five days ago.
“How can I say to her, ‘you know what – we’re giving up?’ How can I say to her family, this is too hard. How can Democrats on the Hill say this is politically risky? How can Republicans on the Hill say we’re better off just blocking anything from happening?”
