Dems Warming to Reconciliation

It appears that Democrats, even moderate ones, are warming to the idea of passing the Senate bill in the House and then making changes as needed through the reconciliation process that requires only a simple majority vote. The White House has now signaled that it is prepared to go that route. You can hear the change in Evan Bayh's comments. Just after the Massachusetts elections, he called the use of reconciliation "very ill-advised." Now he takes a different tack: “Obviously, if the minority is just frustrating the process, that argues for taking steps to get the public’s business done. At the same time ... Republicans would probably shut the place down, but you could argue they are doing that anyway.” You can read more from Politico about the prospects of passage through reconciliation here.
