Landrieu Onboard, Nelson Still Uncertain

Having managed to kill the public option and expanded Medicare coverage, Sen. Joe Lieberman is apparently on board with the Senate healthcare reform bill. With the Lieberman changes, the recalcitrant Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana seems to be comfortable with the revised bill. She says the revised bill combines "the best blend of private and public approaches to reduce cost, expand coverage and increase choice and competition for Americans." You can read more about Sen. Landrieu here.

However, Sen. Ben Nelson continues to present a problem. Despite new abortion language crafted especially to win Nelson's support, he continues to be unsatisfied: "There's a lot of improvement on the legislation, but the basic question about funding of abortion has not been fully answered yet." Also frustrating Majority Leader Harry Reid is Nelson's questioning whether his goal of completing passage of the bill by Christmas is feasible. You can read more about Sen. Nelson's concerns here.
