House to Vote on Reform Bill This Weekend
A vote on the House health care reform bill is scheduled for tonight but could be deferred depending on how negotiations on language concerning abortions goes; debate on an amendment that would strengthen the prohibition against use of federal funds for abortion will be allowed. (Indiana Democrat Brad Ellsworth is one of the amendment sponsrs.) President Obama will visit the Hill today to rally support. A vote on the the Republican proposal will occur before the vote on the Democratic bill. If the House approves the bill, it will be the first passed legislation to guarantee near-universal access to health care.
