Health Care Caravan Delivers

A report on the health care reform caravan from Mia Lewis:

Members of Yes We Can Tippecanoe, Organizing for America (OFA), the Tippecanoe County Democratic Party, and local unions gathered to caravan to Indianapolis to deliver 3,200 signatures to the offices of Senator Evan Bayh. The petitions asked Bayh to support three basic principles for health care reform: reduce costs, guarantee choice, and ensure access to affordable care for all.

We had 11 cars with signs on the outside saying "Bayh or Bust!" "Tippecanoe County for Health Care Reform," "Health Care for All," and other slogans. WLFI was there, but not the J & C. After a few words from Heather Maddox (shown above) and a send off from a small crowd, we drove in convoy to Indianapolis (lots of fun). We delivered our petitions, met up with a contingent of Indianapolis OFA members who delivered their petitions as well. Some of the Tippecanoe crowd then headed home, while others went over to the IUPUI campus to participate in the pro-health care reform bus tour event organized by OFA there. (You can see footage of that here.)

All in all it was a good day--but the work still goes on! We all have to contact our elected officials and tell them to get it done!
