Opposition Group Holds Local Town Halls on Health Care

Citizens in Action, which has opposed the health care reforms currently under consideration, held open meetings on the subject last night in the Tippecanoe County Library and tonight at the Klondike branch of the library. According to the Journal and Courier, the discussion centered less on health care than on freedom and government control. As organizer Donn Brown put it, "This is not about health care; it is about power and control." Area lawmakers were invited, but none chose to attend. Attendee Dennis Smith indicated that their absence would be remembered by voters:
"We look around tonight and wonder where all of the representatives are. Well, when they get to the polls, they are going to wonder where we are."
On the other hand, Walt Dalsimer argued that insurance companies were abusing their power by overcharging and that the government needed to intervene:ut retired physician Walt Dalsimer disagrees, and said something needs to change.

"I think we need health care reform. As many people have said at this meeting, the system is broken now. How this can be corrected without government involvement I can't imagine."

You can read the J&C's coverage of Monday's meeting here, and Channel 18's here. We'll try to include coverage of Tuesday's meeting tomorrow. Any participant care to comment?
